    101: Woodworking Basics and Project Planning $50- 4 SLOTS

    4/4, 6:00-8:30 pm

    Learn about the characteristics of wood and how to identify them including grain, hardness, figure, durability and other qualities to look for when purchasing wood. No tools are used in this class.

    Skills/Topics Covered:

    • Get a feel for different wood types & their properties
    • Selecting the right wood for your project
    • Learn to read project plans
    • Create a bill of materials

    102: Woodshop Safety + 1 month Hobbyist Membership $100- 4 SLOTS

    4/6, 6:00-9:30 pm

    This class will walk you through how to use all major power tools. At the end, you will have a completed small cheese board and are qualified for supervised use of The Foundry's woodshop.

    Hobbyist membership allows members to access the woodshop for 20 hours per month. Click to find out more about makerspace membership.

    103: 2 day Hardwood Cutting Board $100- 1 SLOT

    103a: 4/13, 6:00-9:00 pm

    103b: 4/15, 3:00-6:00 pm

    In this 2 part class you will make a beautiful 11" x 15" hardwood cutting board from a variety of woods in The Foundry's shared woodshop.

    Skills/Topics Covered:

    • Using the table saw, planer, joiner, router, and sander
    • Strategies and techniques for gluing and clamping
    • How to choose the appropriate finish for your project
    • How to match wood properties to suit your project

    Requirements

    Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift 25 lbs.

    Must be 18 years old, 16+ with parent permission.

    Missed Classes: If you are unable to make it to a class, you may be able to make it up during the following season. However, this does not guarantee a seat as is it subject to availability and classes fill quickly. It is highly suggested that you check your availability before purchase.

    Beginner Glass Blowing-The Foundry

    This Class is sold out! Spots are still open in our next class happening  Saturday, April 22nd from 10am-12pm

    In this fun and exciting short two hour class, participants will join Jason Dederich owner of Buffalo Glass Company as he covers the fundamentals of glass blowing by making a glass ornament. 

    Students can choose color, design, and blow the piece themselves with the help of the instructor.  

    What you'll learn: 
    Pipe turning, either using one or two hands.
    Left or right-handed stance.
    Pipe/Body/Hand positioning
    Heating Glass

    Other skills covered: 

    Point Turning

    Marvering
    Marvering in the air
    Reset point on center
    Basic glass balancing



    Class Cost: $50 (all materials included)

    Work with small business owner Mac Greshak to make a personalized belt. This beginner level class is meant to introduce participants to the very basics of leather working.

    Skills/Topics Included:

    • Participants will work from a pre-cut piece of material. Material available up to 64” waist size
    • Hole punching
    • Belt buckle attachment (if there's a special buckle you would like to use, feel free to bring it in)
    • Use hand tools and learn basic stitching techniques. 
    • Dying basics, participants can choose from assorted colors
    • Leather Stamp Punching

    201: Keepsake Box $100 

    4/23, 9:00 am-4:00 pm

    Learn how to make a timeless gift by learning box-making essentials. All materials will be provided.

    Skills/Topics Covered:

    • Reading plans and milling lumber
    • Measuring and marking
    • Operating a jointer and surface planer
    • Using a miter saw, table saw, and bandsaw
    • Making a spline miter joint
    • Cutting a rabbet, dado
    • Gluing and clamping
    • Sanding and strategies for finishing

    202: Picture Frame $100

    4/30, 9:00 am-5:00 pm

    In this 6 hour workshop participants will learn the skills necessary to cut, assemble, and finish a fine art frame to fit an 8 x 10; print. All materials will be provided, including wood, glass and backing. Participants will walk home with their very own keepsake frame.

    • Reading plans
    • Cutting miters on a table saw using a sled
    • Cutting rabbets on a table saw
    • Making biscuit joints
    • Gluing joints properly
    • Proper sanding techniques, sanding block, palm sander
    • Finishing wood

    203: Wall Hanging Cabinet $250

    203a: 5/7, 9:30-4:00 pm

    203b: 5/11, 6:00-9:00 pm

    Learn the basics of cabinet making on a small scale by making a wall hanging cabinet! All material including hinges and knobs are included.

    • Drill shelf holes
    • Dadoing and rabbeting
    • Dowel joinery
    • Fitting and hanging doors
    • Installing and aligning hardware
