    101: Woodworking Basics, Lumber Evaluation and Project Planning $50 - SOLD OUT!

    1/17, 6:00-8:30 pm

    Learn about the characteristics of wood and how to identify them including hardness, grain, crowning, cupping, bowing and other qualities to look for when purchasing wood.

    Skills/Topics Covered:

    • Get a feel for different wood types & their properties
    • Selecting the right wood for your project
    • Learn to read project plans
    • Create a bill of material

    102: Woodshop Safety Class $75 - SOLD OUT!

    1/19, 6:00-9:00 pm

    This class will walk you through how to use all major power tools. At the end, you will have a completed small cheese board and are qualified for (supervised) use of The Foundry's wood shop.

    103: Hardwood Cutting Board $100 - SOLD OUT!

    In this 2 part class you will make a beautiful 11" x 15" hardwood cutting board from a variety of woods in The Foundry's shared woodshop.

    Skills/Topics Covered:

    • Using the table saw, planer, joiner, router, and sander
    • Strategies and techniques for gluing and clamping
    • How to choose the appropriate finish for your project
    • How to match wood properties to suit your project

    201: Keepsake Box $100 

    1/28, 9:00 am-4:00 pm

    Learn how to make a timeless gift by learning box-making essentials. All materials will be provided.

    Skills/Topics Covered:

    • Reading plans and milling lumber
    • Measuring and marking
    • Operating a jointer and surface planer
    • Using a miter saw, table saw, and bandsaw
    • Making a spline miter joint
    • Cutting a rabbet, dado
    • Gluing and clamping
    • Sanding and strategies for finishing

    202: Picture Frame $100- 4 SLOTS

    2/11, 9:00 am-5:00 pm

    In this 6 hour workshop participants will learn the skills necessary to cut, assemble, and finish a fine art frame to fit an 8 x 10; print. All materials will be provided, including wood, glass and backing. Participants will walk home with their very own keepsake frame.

    • Reading plans, milling lumber
    • Cutting miters on a table saw using a sled
    • Cutting rabbets on a table saw
    • Making biscuit joints
    • Gluing joints properly
    • Proper sanding techniques, sanding block, palm sander
    • Finishing wood

    203: Wall Hanging Cabinet $250 - 2 SLOTS

    Learn the basics of cabinet making on a small scale by making a wall hanging cabinet! All material including hinges and knobs are included.

    Skills/Topics Covered:

    • Read plans, mill lumber
    • Drill shelf holes
    • Dadoing and rabbeting
    • Dowel joinery
    • Fitting and hanging doors
    • Installing and aligning hardware
    • *Note* some additional time outside of class may be needed  for completion. Open shop opportunities will be handled on a case by case basis at no additional charge.  

    301: Shaker Step Stool $200 -7 SLOTS

    Participants can boost their joinery skills by learning how to create dovetails to make a traditional 2 step shaker step stool that will last generations.

    Skills/Topics Covered:

    • Reading plans 
    • Glue up a panel
    • Create dovetails using a router and dovetail jig
    • Glue up and clamping for dovetail
    • Use bandsaw to create curved cut-outs
    • strategies and appropriate use of stains, dyes, evaporating finishes, and natural finishes
    • *Note* some additional time outside of class may be needed  for completion. Open shop opportunities will be handled on a case by case basis at no additional charge.  

    302: Floating Table $550- 4 SLOTS

    Begin your furniture making journey with this beautiful floating table class. Learn to make furniture with this modern design.

    Skills/Topics Covered:

    • Best material utilization practices
    • Create a beveled table top
    • Create curved edges using bandsaw
    • Mark and cut double tenons
    • Cut tapered legs
    • Furniture assembly strategies
    • *Note* some additional time outside of class may be needed  for completion. Open shop opportunities will be handled on a case by case basis at no additional charge.  

    303: Design Planning Day $75 -6 SLOTS

    3/28, 6:00-8:30 pm

    Learn how to sketch a project design by hand and create a plan for materials and account for joinery methods. Sketch book included.

    Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift 25 lbs.

    Must be 18 years old, 16+ with parent permission.

    *Note* The 200 Series does not require prior experience-participants do not need to have taken the 100 series in order to sign up.

    • Installment plan: $450 down payment required upon purchase. Payment due dates 2/2-$350, 3/2-$350, 3/22-$350 by 5pm.

    • 1 month of Enthusiast Level Membership to The Foundry's Woodshop (25 hours/week of supervised night and weekend hours), $100 value

    Woodshop Safety Training -March 2017

    In order to gain access to The Foundry's Woodshop, you must attend a safety class. This class will be 3 1/2 hours and will walk you through how to use all major power tools as well as discuss The Foundry policies. At the end, you will have a completed small cheese board and ability to use the woodshop on a part-time basis.

    Supervised shop access is available:

    • Monday 4:30-8:30
    • Tuesday 4:30-8:30
    • Wednesday 4:30-8:30
    • Saturday 8:30-4:30

    Membership starts at $50/month for 20 hours per month. Membership costs cover liability insurance and cost of repairs/maintenance for tools.  More information about the wood shop and makerspace.
