November 2022 - ENews

This giving season, we're thankful for your support!

With your help, The Foundry continues to be a place of inspiration, innovation, and opportunity for makers, entrepreneurs and young people. Your support helps pay students' stipends, buys supplies for our afterschool and day programs, maintains our four community makerspaces, and invites new makers and entrepreneurs into our building to discover their possibilities.

We are so very grateful for your generosity. THANK YOU!

Giving Tuesday @ The Foundry

Help us get a CNC Plasma Cutter!

We're gearing up for Giving Tuesday on November 29, and our goal is to raise $5,000 to purchase a CNC Plasma Cutter.

Giving Tuesday is a powerful national day of giving, raising funds and generating awareness after Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Big Build Raffle

It's not too late to purchase a Big Build Raffle ticket!

We're giving away two handmade floating shelves - built by our talented board vice president!

Drawing will take place after our Holiday Market on Dec. 10.

New Classroom & Computer Lab Unveiling

Last Thursday, we got together with staff, board members, and supporters of The Foundry to celebrate our new classroom and computer lab.

Thanks to the generous support of M&T Bank who provided funding for the renovation of the space and purchase of laptops for students to use for digital design, and to Russ Reinagel and team for constructing a beautiful and inspiring space to learn & create.

It's been many years in the making and was sorely needed. We use this space everyday now, and can't wait to see what it will bring in the future.

Foundry Folks - Janelle, Afterschool STEAM Instructor

Welcome to the team Janelle as our afterschool STEAM instructor! Janelle is a talented artist and creator who brings a broad range of skills to support the students.

Janelle has been working with students at Buffalo Collegiate and Lydia T Wright schools teaching about STEAM and the many career options available to them. We will be doing various activities throughout the semester, exploring what it means to think like a scientist, use digital tools for making, and more. Can’t wait to share what they do together!

Thanks to the generous support of the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation Cullen Foundation for making this possible.

Support Local & Handmade
This Holiday Season

Join us in supporting local and handmade this holiday season! We are continuing the tradition of our holiday market this year, celebrating the talents and skills of Foundry businesses, local makers, and our youth students.

Student-made Gifts

Students in our day program with OLV Human Services have been hard at work this semester creating gifts in the tech lab. They will be selling these wares on Dec. 7 and 8 at the following markets, we hope you can stop by!

December 7, 10am-2pm - Ciminelli Holiday Market @ Fountain Plaza

December 8, 10-11:30am - Holiday Market @ Seneca One Tower

Work-based learning with OLV Human Services gets students out of the classroom and into the studio or lab for hands-on, real-life opportunities in skills development. Students collaborate to design and build community-based projects and items for sale with educators in our metalshop, woodshop, and tech lab.
