Open Hours

Monday 6-9 PM

The 1,000 sq ft metal shop is utilized by students participating in our workforce development programs during the day. In the evenings and on weekends, we offer Open Maker Hours and Adult DIY Classes focused on basic metalworking. Our instructors, who teach both youth and adult programs, have expertise in fabrication, welding, crafts, and art. Additionally, our volunteer supervisors, who oversee the Open Maker Hours, bring decades of combined experience to the shop.

How to Use during Open Maker Hours:

  • Please sign up in advance for Open Maker Hours through our reservation system (you will receive a login from our staff after following the initial sign-up steps)

  • You must book at least 8 hours in advance; this gives our volunteer supervisors a heads up of who to expect and who to contact in case of last-minute cancellations.

  • Time slots are first-come, first-served with a limit of 4 users at anytime in the shop.

  • You can book slots up to 2 weeks in advance.

  • You must be 18 or older to use the metalshop.

  • When signing up for the first time, make sure to complete the three steps below before trying to reserve a time slot.

3 Steps for
Open Maker Hours

1. Complete Our Safety Orientation

Everyone must enroll in a metal safety orientation before using equipment in our shop, regardless of age or business type. Check our class list to sign up. Scholarships are available for income-eligible participants; email [email protected] to apply.

2. Make a Donation

Cost shouldn't be a barrier to accessing our makerspace. We use a pay-what-you-can model instead of expensive monthly fees. Your donation helps maintain our spaces and support staffing while ensuring The Foundry remains an inclusive and welcoming environment.

3. Notify Staff & Schedule a Visit

Contact The Foundry staff at [email protected] to confirm your donation and completed safety class. You’ll receive information on scheduling time during Open Maker Hours.
