Workforce Development

Students explore various career opportunities in woodworking, metalworking, and innovative maker technologies through hands-on experiences. In our fully equipped shops and labs, they develop valuable skills and gain insights into these dynamic fields, effectively preparing them for future careers in craftsmanship and technology.

Daytime Programs - Public Projects

We work with students from WNY YouthBuild, OLV Human Services, Stanley G Falk, and those participating in our own summer programs at The Foundry. Through collaboration on community projects in Buffalo, students develop various skill sets and build pathways to potential careers. We celebrate all completed projects - such as benches, trellises, planters, and more - by hosting on-site ribbon-cutting events to recognize student achievements and the work accomplished.

We select several proposals to bring to life in the community each year. If your organization is interested in collaborating with us on a student-designed and fabricated project, please email us.

Manufacturing Training

We provide a semester-long training program focused on small-batch manufacturing in partnership with The Service Collaborative of WNY and WNY YouthBuild. Students will learn the fundamentals of metalworking and digital fabrication, gain experience operating makerspace equipment, and prepare for the ToolingU-SME certification as Certified Manufacturing Associates. Once complete, students are placed in four-week internships with local employers.

FOUNDRYmade

FOUNDRYmade employs youth from our programs to complete contract work for both retail and community projects. While fabricating products in The Foundry's makerspaces, youth develop a valuable toolkit of maker techniques and employable life skills that will equip them for the future world of work. Enrollment opportunities (when available) are listed on our employment page. If you're interested in supporting us - visit our online shop!
