Open Hours

Monday 6-9 PM, Saturday 10-2 PM

During afterschool hours, students use the TextileLab to learn the fundamentals of STEAM sewing, work on 'Sew Electric' projects that incorporate sensors and circuits, and operate CNC vinyl cutting equipment. Our textile lab is also open at night and on weekends for Open Maker Hours and Adult DIY Classes.

How to Use during Open Maker Hours:

  • Please sign up in advance for Open Maker Hours through our reservation system (you will receive a login from our staff after following the initial sign-up steps)

  • You must book at least 8 hours in advance; this gives our volunteer supervisors a heads up of who to expect and who to contact in case of last-minute cancellations.

  • Time slots are first-come, first-served.

  • You can book slots up to 2 weeks in advance.

  • You must be 18 or older to attend independently, but youth as young as 14 may access our tech lab with parent/guardian supervision.

  • When signing up for the first time, make sure to complete the three steps below before trying to reserve a time slot.

We are excited to expand our adult programming based on your interests. We would love to hear what topics you would like to learn about. Please email [email protected] and share the types of programming you would like to see in the Textile Lab. Here are a few examples:

  • Crochet and Knitting Circles

  • Making Drop Spindles

  • Recycling Night (reusing and repurposing for wearables, fashion, and the Fiber Arts)

  • Setting up Community Projects using our large Standard Looms

1. Complete Our Safety Orientation

Everyone must enroll in a Textile Lab orientation before using equipment in our shop, regardless of age or business type. Check our class list to sign up. Scholarships are available for income-eligible participants; email [email protected] to apply.

2. Make a Donation

Cost shouldn't be a barrier to accessing our makerspace. We use a pay-what-you-can model instead of expensive monthly fees. Your donation helps maintain our spaces and support staffing while ensuring The Foundry remains an inclusive and welcoming environment.
