Education Director (posted 12/13/21)

Position Description: The Foundry is looking to hire a full-time Education Director to manage educational programming within our shared facilities. The successful candidate is comfortable with diverse audiences, recognizes the transformative power of making and entrepreneurship, and believes tools and maker resources should be accessible to everyone. This position will include developing and implementing curriculum for our makerspaces and oversight of both adult and youth education. The Education Director will assist development staff with grant writing and be responsible for a recruitment plan to ensure maximum class participation. 

Duties Include:

  • Developing, implementing and occasionally leading educational programming:
    • Youth Classes: Coordinate and schedule STEAM and Entrepreneurship afterschool for 7-12th grade, daytime highschool programming that adheres to required NYS CDOS standards, summertime programming for 9-12th grade, and workforce development programming for 18-24 year olds
    • Community/DIY Adult Classes: Work with Foundry instructors to develop new classes and support existing classes. Coordinate with the Office Manager to set dates and list classes online.
  • Utilizing interpersonal skills in identifying and maintaining key relationships with professional sources
  • Communicating with Foundry Staff and approximately 30 instructors via phone, zoom, and email
  • Performing evaluative classroom observations, discussions, and assist instructors in creating curriculum
  • Utilizing software on a daily basis to capture key reporting data as appropriate
  • Working closely with the development team to apply for and report on education grants


Desired Qualities

  • Bachelor degree in education, youth development, social work or related disciplines
  • Must be able to work most Saturday mornings (at least 9-1pm)
  • Experience in digital fabrication and/or other maker-related skills
  • Empathy and patience for youth and an ability to work with a variety of people 
  • Strong and polished interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets, hiring/training, supervising and assessing personnel
  • Familiarity with using Google Drive and database management a plus
  • Experience in curriculum planning and implementation
  • Flexible; possessing the ability to wear different “hats” on short notice.
  • Networks with other colleagues and organizations to share information and to gain knowledge that would help improve the program

This is a full time position and includes healthcare benefits, vacation, sick leave, personal days and paid holidays.
